You might come for the endless trails, autumn colours, beautiful nature, a chance to spot the arctic fox and northern lights or for the sheer adventure of just getting here. You might not even know what you are after but you will leave with a lasting impression, and we guarantee that you will fall head over heals for Þórsmörk.
Donal Boyd, the Wandering artist in Þórsmörk, continues his assignment for the Volcano Huts, capturing the spirit of the land, its wildlife and the travellers that venture through. Here is his photo essay of what travellers consider essential items to bring along for the trek across the Laugavegur trail. If you like salami, you don't want to miss this advice!
Iceland is ideal for running & hiking, as the trails are plentiful and the scenery is spectacular. Running and hiking is very popular here and many people come from all over the world to enjoy Iceland’s pristine beauty and unique environment, shaped by ancient and current volcanic activity and other natural forces.
Inga Fanney, our trail running and hiking expert, is the newest staff member here at Volcano Huts. She has planned a series of hiking and trail running tours that are scheduled for this summer in Iceland and Greenland.
We first met Donal when he showed up at the Volcano Huts, wearing his signature woollen sweater, driving his great white Defender with a photography drone following him way above in the air.
